The Altoona community is the northeastern suburb of the Des Moines metro area, located directly off the Interstate 80 and the Highway 65 bypass. Altoona is a part of the Southeast Polk Community School District.The district serves more than 6,800 students from preschool through grade 12. Covering 114 square miles and serves the communities of Pleasant Hill, Altoona, Mitchellville, Runnells, Des Moines and surrounding areas.
